Torino defender Matteo Darmian is to have a medical before his move to Manchester United, manager Louis Van Gaal has confirmed.

Darmian, who started all three of Italy's matches at last year's World Cup in Brazil, can play anywhere across the defence.

United hope to have completed the deal for the 25-year-old in time for their pre-season tour of the United States.

Van Gaal's side are set to leave for Seattle on Monday.

United's only summer signing has been £31m winger Memphis Depay, who will be presented to the media on Friday.

There has still been no resolution to any potential transfer deal with Real Madrid involving Spain defender Sergio Ramos and United goalkeeper David De Gea.

United have also had a bid rejected for Southampton's France midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin.

Graeme Le Saux says Chelsea 'were right to sell Petr Cech to Arsenal'

Ex-Chelsea defender Graeme Le Saux believes his former club's decision to sell Petr Cech to Arsenal was the correct one.

Cech, who is no longer first choice goalkeeper at Stamford Bridge, recently left the club for the Emirates in a £10m deal, thus ending his 11-year stay at Chelsea.

However, former England full-back Le Saux - who enjoyed 10 years with the Blues over two spells - has applauded the club for showing respect to a player who had given them great service and loyalty in return.

 

Mario Gotze needs more support from Bayern Munich, says agent

 

Mario Gotze's agent has criticised Bayern Munich for not giving the Germany international enough support last season.

Gotze scored 14 goals for the Pep Guardiola's side last season – his first campaign since netting the winning goal in the World Cup final against Argentina 12 months ago.

But his agent, Volker Struth, believes Bayern could have done more to help get the best out of the 23-year-old.

Bastian Schweinsteiger is 'flattered' by reported interest from Manchester United, according to Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

Rummenigge is planning to speak with the Germany captain when he returns from a summer holiday, his name still in the headlines amid renewed talk of an offer from United boss Louis van Gaal.

The 30-year-old midfielder has only a year left to run on his current contract with Bayern while talks over a new deal do not appear to be on the agenda.
